Frankofil dansk sangerinde fortolker fortidens salonfæhige
chansons
…..udviser
en meget, meget smuk og gribende sans for kvaliteterne i såvel
traditionen som de konkrete chansons. Smyger sig respektfuldt og
på smukkeste vis op ad traditionen.

Roughan, 2006:
Buy this cd if only for the beautiful live version of La Mer. If
you don't instantly reach for the play-it-again button, you are
immediately in for another musical treat as Je Bois sustains both
the mood and quality here. Bodil's voice is at its softest and most
poignant here with the background piano in peaceful empathy. Les
Feuilles Mortes holds the mood bringing a late-night jazz feel and
Le Déserteur with its gentle guitar accompaniment allows
the singer to fully express herself.
The last four tracks return to the more dramatic, forceful style
of the earlier tracks and show the versatility and vocal skills
of the artist. The title track itself is a gem, as is the beautiful
Gottingen which has Bodil accompanying herself on guitar as with
Le Deserteur. Hymne à l'amour is an excellent interpretation
of a French standard where Bodil's voice gives full dramatic impact
to Edith Piaf's song. Mademoiselle chante le blues is another winner
and demonstrates further the versatility of the artist.
All in all a varied and delightful album. I like
the choice of songs and the thought that has gone into them in arrangement
and instrumentation. The track order is such that the mood and tempo
changes, when they come, allow the listener to get into the album
as a whole.
Whether you are an Edith Piaf fan or a Jacques Brel one, this album
of French chansons is highly recommended. Bodil's rich voice lends
itself to all musical styles from dramatic to romantic to introspective.
Excellent sleeve notes and photography...which brings us back to
where we came in, the Sea.
Quotation from the WONDERFUL Peter Sarstedt, 20 Oct. 06:
You and your fellow musicians can be justly proud of 'C'est extra
!'. It is great, wonderful songs sympathetically arranged. You have
a marvellous expressive voice. 'Le plat pays' is a particular favourite
of a Belgian friend of mine, we play the Jacques version all the
time in his car.
Quotation from delightful Canadian fan, Sandi, 2006:
What a mix!---typical "French songs from movies" sounds
and smooth jazz. And,
oh, you make Les feuilles mortes *so* sad. Yes-yes, I know it's
sad, but you
put it more like how I feel it when I hear the words. That is to
say, you take
it to that other level of meaning that *could* have been expressed
by others
that I have heard sing it, but they just didn't do it. (Only a few
days prior
to reading about your CD, I completed a compilation CDr with 18
versions [Joe Pass, Nana Mouskouri, Ferrante & Teicher, Keith
Jarrett Trio, Eartha Kitt, Duke Ellington, Diana Krall, Ben Webster,
Doris Day, Edith Piaf, Metheny, Jamal & Burton, Eva Cassidy,
Chico Cézar, Nat King Cole, Earl Klugh, Patricia Kaas, Laura
Fygi, Stephane Grapelli] of Les feuilles mortes on it---one of 2
that I had planned to make: so, I have a recent idea with how many
different inflections that song can be sung. Only yours has hit
that place inside where I *feel* the song. Sorry for the rant, but
it *IS* one of my favourites.)"
